Harare: Zimbabwe announced their 15-man squad for the three-match T20I home series against India, with wicketkeeper-batsman Tafatswa Chika earning his maiden call-up in the format.
Batting all-rounder Wesley Mathewere and fast bowler Newman Nyamhuri are also back in the squad for the series at the Harare Sports Club on July 23, 25 and 26.
The trio replaces Clive Madante, Dinodenda Maposa and Tashinga Musekiwa from the squad that featured in the recent T20I series against Bangladesh.
Nyamhuri returns after recovering from a nickel that curtailed his involvement in the previous ODI series against Bangladesh. Tanaka Siwanga, who replaced him in the third ODI, retained his place in the squad.
Zimbabwe entered the series having lost the T20I series against Bangladesh 2-1 earlier this month. However, Sikandar Raza’s team enjoyed success in the longer formats, winning the Test by an innings and clinching the ODI series.
The rivals now face a tough challenge against T20 World Cup champions India, but the visitors have endured a tough run since lifting the title. India lost the series 2-0 in Ireland in June and lost 4-0 in England.
In the T20 World Cup, Zimbabwe shocked Australia before suffering losses to India, South Africa and the West Indies.
Chika has represented Zimbabwe in 10 Tests but is yet to make his white-ball international debut. Meanwhile, Mathewere returns to the T20I squad for the first time since July 2025, having featured most recently in the Test and ODI series against Bangladesh.
