Dublin: Chinelle Henry backed up his unbeaten 33 with economical bowling figures of 2/13 as West Indies beat Pakistan by 25 runs in the second match of the T20I tri-series in Ireland.

Chasing the 200-run target, the Green Shirts could only manage 174/8 in 20 overs, losing the series opener.

Pakistan got off to a miserable start with just 28 runs in 4 overs for the loss of 3 wickets.

After stumbling early, Saira Zabeen tried to counterattack with 30 off 19 balls but fell to Ashmini Muniser on the final delivery of the batting powerplay after sharing a one-sided 24-run partnership with Ramin Shamim.

Shamim then combined with fellow middle-order batsman Iram Javed to put on 32 runs for the fourth wicket as both were run out in quick succession.

With the scoreboard reading 112/6 in 13.5 overs, experienced all-rounder Alia Riaz joined captain Fatima Sana in the middle and the duo chased down 27 runs until they were dismissed by Jahzara Claxton in the 17th over.

Alia was Pakistan’s top scorer with 37 runs off 28 balls with 8 fours.

Fatima, on the other hand, was dismissed on the second delivery of the last over and after scoring 27 off 14 balls with the help of 2 sixes and several fours, left Pakistan needing 30 off 4 balls.

Shawnisha Hector conceded just four runs off the remaining four balls as West Indies comfortably defended the 200-run target to register their second consecutive win in the T20I tri-series, cementing their top spot in the points table.

For the West Indies side, Hector and Henry took two wickets each and Claxton and Munizar took one wicket each.

Pakistan, on the other hand, will next face hosts Ireland in the second match of the tri-series, scheduled to be played at the same venue on Sunday.

West Indies skipper Hayley Mathews’ decision to bat first paid off as the former champions posted 199/6 in 20 overs without any of their batsmen scoring a half-century.

The Caribbean team scored 40 off 20 balls as captain Mathews scored 57 before being dismissed by Diana Baig on the last delivery of the fifth over.

Following his dismissal, West Indies lost two wickets in quick succession as Nashra Sandhu and Ramin Shamim dismissed Deandra Todd (17) and Kiana Joseph (four) in successive overs to slump to 66/3.

After a brief top-order collapse, veteran Stafani Taylor returned to the Pakistan bowlers with a 23-ball 39 with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Taylor shared a crucial 44-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Jahsara Claxton, which saw the former dismissed in the 13th over. Claxton, on the other hand, followed this up in the next over, resulting in West Indies slumping to 122/5.

Back-to-back dismissals didn’t bother the West Indies as Janellia Glasgow and Cinelle Henry ensured they kept up the scoring momentum with a 61-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Glasgow, who was the main aggressor at the crucial position, was run out after scoring 42 runs off 25 balls with 7 boundaries, and his brilliant performance came to a painful end.

On the other hand, Henry remained unbeaten on 33 off 17 balls with 4 fours and a six.

For Pakistan, Sandhu and Shamim took two wickets each and Diana Baig took one wicket for 58 runs in 4 overs.
