
Bristol: West Indies maintained their unbeaten run in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka by five wickets in a match at the County Ground on Sunday.
Chasing a modest target of 99, the Caribbean team lost half in 16.1 overs and crossed the line despite a spirited effort by the Sri Lankan bowlers.
Veteran all-rounder Stafani Taylor continued the chase with an unbeaten 27 off 25 balls with a four and a six.
She was supported by captain Haley Mathews with 17 runs, while Deandra Dottin chipped in with 12 runs. Janillia Glasgow remained unbeaten on 10 off 15 balls, hitting a boundary to help steer her side.
Kavisha Dilhari did well for Sri Lanka with figures of 2/22 from her four overs. Nimasha Mibake and captain Samari Athapatu took one wicket each.
Earlier, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 98 runs in 19.4 overs thanks to some decent bowling led by Mathews.
Middle-order batsman Nilakshika Silva scored 30 off 26 balls, including 3 fours, despite wickets constantly falling around him. Dilhari scored 21 runs off 20 balls with 3 fours, while Imesha Dulani and Kavya Kavindi added 17 runs each.
No other Sri Lankan player managed to reach double figures.
Openers Vishmi Gunaratne and Athapatu were dismissed for one and two runs respectively, while Harshitha Samarawickrama and wicketkeeper-batsman Kaushini Nutyangana both went out without a run.
Suganthika Kumari and Mithali Ayodhya contributed two and three runs respectively.
For the West Indies, Mathews took 3/15 from his four overs. Karisma Ramharak picked up 2 wickets while Sinel Henry, Affie Fletcher, Alia Aleen and Ashmini Munishar took one each.
