
Windhoek: West Indies cruised to a 5-wicket win over Tanzania in their first Group D match of the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup 2026 at the High Performance Oval here on Thursday.
Batting first, Tanzania’s batting line-up were bowled out for 122 in 34 overs despite a promising start.
Openers Dylan Thackeray and Darban Jobanputra put on 53 runs but both were dismissed in subsequent overs, sparking a game-defining slump as Tanzania lost 8 wickets for 69 runs.
Targhar continued to top the innings with 26 off 38 balls, while Jobanputra scored 19 off 46 balls.
West Indies bowler Vittal Lawes took 3 for 23 in his 6 overs, followed by Shaquan Pelly and Micah McKenzie with 2 wickets each, Jonathan Van Lange and R’Jay Gittens claiming a scalp each.
Chasing a target of 123 runs, West Indies cruised to victory with 174 balls to spare.
They were led by opener Thanes Francis with a top score of 52 off 55 balls with 5 fours and a six. He shared an 80-run partnership for the second wicket with Jewel Andrew, who contributed 44 runs off one ball.
For Tanzania, Augustino Mwamele and Raymond Francis took 2 wickets each and Laksh Bakrania took one wicket.
Meanwhile, persistent rain in Harare saw the first Group C match between co-hosts Zimbabwe and Scotland abandoned without a ball being bowled, resulting in both teams sharing a point each.
