West Indies have announced their 15-man squad for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, all matches to be played between June 3 and 8 at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
Captain Shai Hope will continue to lead the side which has been strengthened by the return of several key players ahead of the crucial series.
Fast bowler Alsari Joseph returns to ODIs for the first time since Australia’s Caribbean tour last year. The fast bowler has recovered from a back injury that sidelined him since July 2025.
Spinner Gudakesh Moti is also back after missing the New Zealand tour in November.
While fellow pacers Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seals have retained their places in the squad, Cricket West Indies has already confirmed that the workloads of all three pacers will be carefully managed.
Another notable addition is Shimron Hedmire, who was reintegrated into the ODI set-up following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign earlier this year.
The left-handed batsman scored 248 runs at an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 186.46 during the tournament.
Hetmyer last featured in ODI cricket against England in June 2025 and then missed the series against Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. He is set to join the squad ahead of the third ODI.
Alik Athanas, Johan Laine, Gary Beare and Romario Sheppard are missing from the squad that toured New Zealand at the end of last year.
Head coach Darren Sammy hopes the team’s recent win at home will give them confidence against a disciplined Sri Lankan side.
“Sri Lanka are a disciplined and efficient ODI unit, especially in situations that require patience and smart cricket,” Sammy said.
“For us, this series is about setting the standard – intensity on the field, clarity with the bat and consistency with the ball. We want to play fearless but smart cricket and continue to build the identity that we believe West Indies cricket should represent.”
Sammy also highlighted the importance of teamwork as the West Indies aim to make the home environment a fortress in ODI cricket.
“In our desire to make home a fortress in one-day cricket, I want the team to continue to win moments rather than rely on individual talent, which we have emphasized over the last 18 months.”
The series marks the start of an important period for West Indies as they continue their push for automatic qualification for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Currently ranked 10th in the ODI rankings, the Caribbean team is outside the automatic qualification spots, with only the top eight teams, along with hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, getting direct entry into the ranking track.
Despite recent struggles away from home, including five defeats in the last six ODIs, the Men in Maroon have built impressive momentum in the Caribbean conditions, winning each of their last four ODI series since 2023.
