KARACHI: Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram has given an honest assessment of the Test defeats to Bangladesh and expressed disappointment with the visitors’ performance.

Bangladesh wrapped up the series on the final morning as their bowlers took the last three Pakistani wickets to seal a comprehensive win.

As a result, Bangladesh won the first Test series against Pakistan at home, adding to their overall win against them in the format after winning the previous two Test series in Rawalpindi in 2024.

Reflecting on the series, Akram praised Bangladesh’s progress in all areas, especially the home conditions and their approach to player development, including the rise of fast bowlers, which he believes was decisive in beating Pakistan.

“Extremely disappointed to see Pakistan lose to Bangladesh for the second time but full credit and marks to the winners as they played complete cricket,” said Akram.

Akram highlighted Bangladesh’s shift from traditionally spin-heavy surfaces to more balanced pitches that now favor fast bowlers, while hailing emerging pacer Nahit Rana’s impressive performance and growing impact at the highest level.

“Bangladesh used to have less, slower and bigger spinners, but now they are producing better Test pitches and helping the pace bowlers outpace Pakistan. Bangladesh are now ready to compete against the best in this format. And what a talent Nahid Rana is looking at. Congratulations Bangladesh,” he added.

Chasing a tough target of 437, Pakistan were bowled out for 358 in 97.2 overs, with Taijul Islam’s superb spin.

Mohammad Rizwan scored 94 runs off 166 balls with 10 boundaries for Pakistan’s opposition. Sajid Khan scored 28 off 36 balls with 5 fours as Pakistan tried to fight back late on.

Taijul Islam took 6 wickets for 120 runs in 34.2 overs and Nahid Rana took 2 wickets. Shoriful Islam and Mehidi Hasan Miraz picked up a wicket each with disciplined and sustained bowling.
