Harare: India’s 15-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi has etched his name in history at the young age of scoring a half-century in men’s international cricket.
Suryavanshi reached the milestone during India’s seven-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the first T20I of the three-match away series at the Harare Sports Club earlier today, registering his maiden half-century in just 18 balls.
Aged just 15 years and 118 days, Suryavanshi surpassed India’s batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who was 16 years and 213 days, when he scored his maiden international fifty in the Faisalabad Test against Pakistan in 1989.
Pakistan’s legendary all-rounder and former captain Shahid Afridi is third on the elusive list as he crossed the fifty for the first time in international cricket at the age of 16 years and 214 days in a historic ODI against Sri Lanka in 1996.
Another Pakistani on the list, Mushtaq Muhammad, has achieved the feat at the age of 17 years and 39 days, while Bangladesh legend Mohammad Ashraful has rounded out the top five as he scored his maiden half-century at the age of 17 years and 63 days.

For the uninitiated, Suryavanshi is the youngest cricketer to make his international debut for India, earning his first cap at just 15 years and 99 days.
The record was previously held by Tendulkar when he made his international debut for India against arch-rivals Pakistan in December 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days.
