
Windhoek: Afghanistan beat Afghanistan by 4 wickets in the fourth Super Six match.DICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2026 at the Namibia Cricket Ground on Monday.
Sri Lankan skipper Vimat Dinsara opted to bat first as his team bowled out Afghanistan for 193 runs in 49.5 overs despite Osman Sadat’s half-century.
Sadat batted cautiously en route to a top score of 61 off 107 balls and oversaw Afghanistan’s batting charge till the 41st over.
He shared a crucial 76-run fifth-wicket partnership with middle-order batsman Azizullah Miyakeel, who made a notable contribution with 43 off 58 balls that included five fours.
Apart from them, Faisal Shinozada and Ruhullah Arab, 22 each, and Qadir Stanikzai (13) managed to put up double figures against Sri Lanka’s bowling attack, which was helped by Afghanistan’s poor run which saw three of their batsmen run out between the wickets.
For the Sri Lankan side, Gukadas Madhulan and Veeran Samuditha took 2 wickets each and Setmika Senaviratna, Rashid Nimsara and Samikka Heenadikala took one wicket each.
Chasing 194, Sri Lanka were forced to put in the hard yards and eventually they amassed a total of 6 wickets with 19 balls to spare.
Senuja Vekunagoda, who led them, scored 43 runs off 79 balls with the help of 5 fours.
He was supported by opener Dimantha Mahavidhana with 37 runs off 58 balls and Dulnith Chikera (30), Kavija Kamage (25) and Samika Heenathikala (22 not out) contributed significantly in the run chase.
Among Afghanistan’s bowlers, Ruhullah Arab took 2 wickets for just 23 runs in his two overs, while Abdul Aziz, Wahidullah Sadran, Nuristani Omarzai and Qadir Stanikzai took one each.
The impressive victory lifted Sri Lanka to third place in the Group 1 stages of the U19 World Cup 2026 Super Sixes stage with four points from three matches, relegating West Indies to fourth place, boasting the same record but a lower net run rate.
