
Windhoek: Dulnith Chikera’s combined four-wicket effort led Sri Lanka to a 106-run win over Ireland in the 13th match of the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup 2026 at the Namibia Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka posted 267 for 5 in 50 overs thanks to half-centuries from Samika Heenadikala and skipper Vimat Thinsara.
Thinsara remained top scorer with 95 off 102 balls with 6 fours and a six, while Heenadikala made an unbeaten 51 off 53 balls with 4 fours.
For his anchoring, Thinsara was adjudged man of the match.
Middle order batsman Kavija Gamage scored a remarkable 49 off 69 balls with 6 fours.
For Ireland, Oliver Riley took 2 wickets and Reuben Wilson and Luke Murray took one each.
Chasing 268, Ireland’s batting unit were bowled out for 161 in 40.1 overs and succumbed to their second defeat.
Opener Callum Armstrong continued to top score with a cautious 39 off 83 balls with 3 boundaries, while Wilson and captain Riley scored 32 and 31 respectively.
Chikera led the Sri Lankan bowling with 4 for 19 in his 4.1 overs, followed by Rashid Nimsara with 3 wickets and Chethmika Senaviratne, Gukadus Madhulan and Viran Samuditha with a scalp each.
The 106-run win lifted Sri Lanka to the top of Group A at the 2026 U19 World Cup 2026 with four points from two matches, while Ireland are third with two losses from as many games.
