Mumbai: The Indian men’s cricket team suffered a twin injury setback on Thursday as fast bowler Harshit Rana and mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty were ruled out of the five-match T20I series against England.
According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), both Rana and Chakraborty will be unavailable for the remaining two T20Is against England in Bristol and Southampton respectively after being assessed by its medical team due to hamstring injuries.
Harshit Rana and Varun Chakraborty suffered hamstring injuries during the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge,” BCCI X, earlier tweeted.
“The BCCI medical team has evaluated them and ruled them out of the 4th and 5th T20Is.”
A double blow for the tourists, who are still searching for success since winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year, with a 2-0 whitewash against Ireland last month, has left the two-time champions trailing 2-0 in the five-match series.
Meanwhile, Rana and Chakraborty, who played India’s first three T20Is against England, are joined by Prasith Krishna and Washington Sundar in the line-up for the ongoing fourth.
