All-rounder Shatab Khan has been congratulated by his owner Sydney Thunder following his selection in Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka in January 2026.

Shadab, who currently represents Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (PBL), will leave for Sri Lanka after the Thunder’s match against the Hobart Hurricanes on January 4, a Thunder spokesperson confirmed.

The all-rounder will be available for the Sydney Smash on January 16 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the spokesperson added. Even if Sydney Thunder qualify for the BPL finals, he will be there for the rest of the season.

So far this season, Shadab has scored 100 runs at an average of 33.33 and has claimed six wickets, making him Thunder’s leading wicket-taker.

Reacting to his selection, Shadab said it was an honor to represent Pakistan and to be selected for the upcoming series. He described his experience playing for the Sydney Thunder as “fantastic” and said he was looking forward to returning to the team later in the season.

“I will come back at the end of the season and help the team be in the race for the finals,” Shadab said.

Sydney Thunder general manager Trent Copeland said it is always an honor to represent one’s country and expressed his happiness that Shadab will get another chance to play for Pakistan.

He wished the all-rounder well and said he would be rightfully welcomed back to the crucial phase of the season.

Meanwhile, the Thunder confirmed that discussions regarding a foreign player replacement for Shadab Khan are at an advanced stage.
