KARACHI: Pakistan’s burgeoning left-arm wrist spinner Subian Muqeem on Friday firmly dismissed rumors that he is planning to leave the country’s cricket establishment for possible opportunities abroad, particularly in England.
Mukeem, who was linked with Derbyshire Falcons for the remainder of Vitality Blast 2026 earlier this week, issued a clarification via his official Instagram handle, insisting the speculation was “completely baseless”.
The 24-year-old insisted he was only in England to represent the Falcons in the ongoing edition of the Vitality Blast, before reiterating his allegiance to Pakistan.
“Rumours about me leaving Pakistan are completely baseless. I am currently in England only to play T20 cricket for Derbyshire Falcons,” Muqeem wrote on Instagram.
“Kindly request you to keep me in your prayers. Pakistan is my identity, pride and my motherland and it will always come first for me. Long live Pakistan!”
Mukeem, who has represented Pakistan in 19 T20Is, was signed by the Falcons as a replacement for Afghanistan’s Mohammad Ghazanfar.
Notably, Ghazanfar was due to rejoin the Falcons squad ahead of Sunday’s game against Yorkshire, but the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) withdrew his availability to manage his workload, resulting in the cancellation of his stint with the county team.
Sufyan Mukeem is coming off the back of a 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL) campaign where he finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker and played a key role in Peshawar Zalmi lifting the title.
