Colombo: Sri Lanka’s 15-man squad for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales has been announced, with veteran captain Samari Atapathu set to lead the team once again.
The 15-member squad features several changes from the squad that competed in the previous edition two years ago.
Imesha Dhulani, Hansima Karunaratne, Kaushini Nutyangana, Suganthika Dasanayake, Nimasha Madushani, Kavya Kavindi, Malki Madara and Mithali Ayodhya will be participating in their first World Cup.
Supporting Athapatu are experienced players like Hasini Perera, Harshitha Samarawickrama and Nilakshika Silva in the core group.
Sri Lanka come off the back of a 3-0 T20I series win and aim to carry that momentum into the global tournament.
They are drawn in Group 2 alongside hosts England, Ireland, Scotland, West Indies and defending champions New Zealand.
Sri Lanka begin their campaign against England on June 12 at Edgbaston.
Sri Lanka’s remaining group matches include New Zealand in Southampton on June 16, West Indies in Bristol on June 21, Ireland in Bristol on June 23 and Scotland in Manchester on June 26.
Buoyed by recent form, the Atabatu-led side will be hoping to progress beyond the group stage for the first time in the tournament’s history and challenge strongly against top-ranked opponents.
