
London: Left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone added another feather to her cap on Friday as she became England’s leading wicket-taker in women’s international cricket.
The 27-year-old achieved the milestone with 3 for 68 in his 21.5 overs on the opening day of the ongoing one-off Test against India at Lord’s here.
India’s middle-order batsman Deepti Sharma (57) was caught at deep mid-wicket for her 41st wicket to take her total to 336 wickets in international cricket, surpassing Kathryn Skiver-Brand’s long-standing record of 2635 matches.
The left-arm spinner, playing in her 207th international for England, took two more wickets as she dismissed Saili Sadkare and Kranti Gowt to take her tally to 338 more than Catherine in women’s international cricket.

Maddy Villiers, Issy Wong and Lauren Filler picked up two wickets to support Ecclestone’s record-breaking performance, while Lauren Bell picked up a wicket to help India bowl out for 285 in 74.5 overs.
Left-handed opener Smriti Mandhana remained India’s top scorer with 83 off 108 balls with 11 fours and a six, while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and all-rounder Deepti Sharma scored 58 and 57 respectively.
