Colombo: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has dedicated next month’s men’s domestic T20I series against Pakistan to efforts to “rebuild Sri Lanka”, the country’s media reported on Wednesday.
According to reports, the decision was taken by the Shammi Silva-led SLC management team as part of the body’s commitment to support the government’s recovery efforts after the devastation caused by Cyclone Tidwa.
The SLC, in a statement, promised to promote the hashtag #VisitSriLanka at tournament venues and create awareness about the event program throughout the series to promote the country for global tourism, reports further said.
Also, the SLC will contribute the profit from the domestic series against Pakistan to the central government scheme.
The much anticipated T20I series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan will be played on January 7, 9 and 11 respectively.
The series will be an important step for both sides in their preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Pakistan, who are placed in Group A, will begin their campaign against the Netherlands in the curtain raiser of the 20-team tournament on February 7, while Sri Lanka, who are placed in Group B, will begin their tour against Ireland the following day.
Notably, the two teams last faced each other in the shortest format in the tri-series hosted by Pakistan in November, which also featured Zimbabwe, defeating Sri Lanka in the final to win the home title.
