KARACHI: Australia’s Shane McDermott has resigned as fielding coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, international media reported on Saturday.

McDermott, who was appointed as Pakistan’s all-format fielding coach for an undisclosed period in July last year, was slated to be part of the Green Shirts’ support staff for the Asian Games in September.

However, according to a report by an international cricket news website, the Australian fielding specialist has decided to step down, the reason for which is yet to be made public.

McDermott held a number of fielding-specific coaching positions with established cricket nations, including three years as assistant fielding coach in Bangladesh, followed by several in Sri Lanka.

He replaced Mohammad Masroor as Pakistan’s fielding coach for the three-match T20I series in Bangladesh.

Notably, his departure came a day before Pakistan’s departure for the two-match series against the West Indies, scheduled from July 25 to August 6.

The visitors will begin their red-ball tour with a four-day practice match starting on July 18, while the series opener will be held in Trinidad and Tobago from July 25 to 29. However, Port of Spain’s Queen’s Park Oval will host the next Test from August 2 to 6.

Following the Caribbean tour, Pakistan travel to England for a three-match Test series, with the opening match at Headingley in Leeds from August 19 to 23, the second at Lord’s from August 27 to 31, and the third and final match from Birmingham to September 13.
