North Sound: West Indies middle-order batsman Shai Hope has been ruled out of the first Test of the two-match home series against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium here from June 25 to 29.
According to Cricket West Indies (CWI), the 32-year-old suffered a left shoulder injury during the home side’s final practice session at the same venue on Tuesday and will miss the opening match of the Test series against Sri Lanka.
“Shai Hope has been ruled out of the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards in Antigua due to left shoulder pain,” CWI said in a brief statement.
“Hope suffered the injury during Tuesday’s final practice before the series opener.”
Hope’s absence from the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 has been a major blow for West Indies with 534 runs in eight matches with two centuries and a half-century at a decent average of 33.37.
However, despite his consistent performances, the West Indies are bottom of the nine-team WTC 2025-27 rankings, having lost seven of their eight matches in the current cycle, while Sri Lanka are third with one win from two games.
