Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has been ruled out of the 15th edition of the Big Bash League (PBL) after injuring his knee during the Brisbane Heat’s match against the Adelaide Strikers on Saturday.
Shaheen took to social media platform X to express his gratitude to the franchise and fans for their support during his first BBL season.
“I am extremely grateful to the Brisbane Heat team and fans who have showered me with so much love and support,” he wrote.
The Pakistan ODI captain confirmed that he has been recalled by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for rehabilitation.
“Due to an unexpected injury, I have been recalled by the PCB and will have to undergo rehabilitation. I hope to be back on the field soon,” added Shaheen. “In the meantime, I’ll be cheering on the amazing team.”
The 25-year-old has played four matches in the BBL this year, picking up just two wickets at an economy rate of 11.19.
Shaheen was left out of Pakistan’s T20I squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. He and former captain Babar Azam were left out of the revamped squad due to their commitments in BBL 15.
As part of preparations for the T20 World Cup 2025 co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, Pakistan is scheduled to play three T20Is against Sri Lanka, followed by a domestic series against Australia in late January.
The extent of Shaheen’s knee injury also raises questions over his availability for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which begins on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.
