EDINBURGH: Kirsty Gordon’s three wickets followed by half-centuries from Darcy Carter and Catherine Fraser helped Scotland to a 9-wicket win over Ireland in the first match of the T20I tri-series at the Grange Cricket Club on Thursday.
Netherlands captain Babet de Leyde’s decision to bat first backfired as the visitors managed to amass 141/8 from their 20 overs with Robin Rijke’s cautious knock at mid-on.
Rijke top-scored for the Dutch as he scored 46 off 44 balls with 5 fours. Apart from him, opener Heather Seegers (32) and all-rounder Frederik Overdijk (22) made significant contributions.
Gordon was the pick of the bowlers as he took three wickets for just 27 runs in his four overs, while Brianaz Chatterjee, Abdaha Maqsood, Chloe Abel, Kathryn Price and Fraser chipped in with a scalp each.
In turn, the hosts made light work of chasing the target of 142 runs for the loss of one wicket in just 31 balls.
Scotland got off to a good start as openers Carter and Fraser put up a hundred-run partnership.
Carter, who was the main occupier of the key opening position, fell victim to Frederick Overdige in the final delivery of the 11th over and returned after scoring 56 off 37 balls with 8 fours and a six.
Fraser, on the other hand, then teamed up with captain Price and the duo eventually took Scotland to an unbeaten 44-run partnership in the 15th over.
Kathryn Fraser, who scored an unbeaten 56 off 41 balls with 10 fours, was the top scorer for Scotland and was awarded the man of the match award for her all-round prowess. Their captain Price, however, scored an unbeaten 23 off 12 balls.
