
MELBOURNE: Gurinder Sandhu’s four-wicket haul, Josh Brown and Mohammad Rizwan combined to help Melbourne Renegades record their second win over Stars by four wickets in the ongoing Big Bash League (PBL) 15 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday.
Batting first, Stars were restricted to 173/9 in 20 overs thanks to a late cameo from Tom Curran, who hit 38 off 18 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes.
Top order batsman Campbell Kellaway smashed 33 runs off 27 balls, Hilton Cartwright added 28 runs off 19 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes.
For the Renegades, Sandhu was the best bowler with figures of 4/41 in four overs. Calum Stowe took 2 wickets, Hasan Khan and Will Sutherland one each.
Chasing 174 runs, Sutherland-led Renegades reached the target with the loss of 4 wickets in 19.5 overs. Opener Josh Brown played a match-winning innings of 84 off 48 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan scored 41 off 38 balls with 4 fours, while skipper Sutherland completed the chase with 19 off 7 balls including 2 sixes.
Haris Rauf was the most expensive of the Stars’ bowlers, conceding 44 runs in four overs and claiming two wickets. Peter Siddle took two wickets for 39 and Mitchell Swepson took one.
