Dubai: Pakistan’s emerging top-order batsman Sameer Minhas hit several milestones with his unbeaten century against Malaysia in the second match of the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2025 at The Sevens Stadium here on Friday.
He scored 177 runs off 148 balls with 19 fours including 8 sixes.
His unbeaten 177 is the highest individual score in the history of the continental tournament, surpassing India’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored 171 against home team United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the same city almost an hour earlier.
This is the highest score for Pakistan in the format, while the fifth highest overall. South Africa’s Jorich van Schalkwyk set the all-time record with 215 against Zimbabwe earlier this year.
Highest individual score by a Pakistani player in YODIs
- Sameer Minhas – 177 not out against Malaysia in 2025
- Shahzaib Khan – 159 against India in 2024
- Shamil Hussain – 150 against Sri Lanka in 2023
- Abdul Razak – 142 against Australia in 1997
- Shahid Yusuf – 136 not out against Sri Lanka in 2003
Samir Minhas put on a 293-run third-wicket partnership with middle-order batsman Ahmed Hussain, who also scored a blistering century.
Their 293-run partnership is now the second-highest for any wicket in the format, behind England’s Don Lawrence and Jack Burnham, who put on 303 for the second wicket in the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2016 against Fiji in 2015.
His record-breaking feat, followed by a merciless bowling display, eventually led Pakistan to a mammoth 293-run victory over Malaysia in their U19 Asia Cup 2025 campaign opener.
