Dubai: Pakistan opening batsman Samir Minhas on Sunday broke compatriot Sami Aslam’s 13-year-old record as the highest run-scorer in a single edition of the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup.

Minhas achieved this milestone with his magnificent century against arch-rivals India in the blockbuster final here at the ICC Academy.

The right-handed batsman dominated India’s bowling attack and was bowled out for a marathon 172 off just 113 balls with 17 fours and nine sixes.

His sensational performance took his tally to 471 runs in the eight-team continental tournament, 10 more than Aslam’s tally in the 2012 edition.

Most runs in the U19 Asia Cup edition

  • Samir Minhas (Pakistan) – 471 for 157 in five innings
  • Sami Aslam (Pakistan) – 461 runs in five innings at 115.25
  • Sami Aslam (Pakistan) – 379 runs in five innings at an average of 75.80
  • Aashiqur Rahman (Bangladesh) – 378 for 126 in five innings
  • Unmukt Chand (India) – 370 for 74 in five innings

Notably, Minhas had an equally impressive start to his U19 Asia Cup 2025 campaign as he scored 177 runs against Malaysia. He lost the group stage match against India as he fell for nine runs.

However, the 19-year-old made an immediate turnaround in a must-win 44-run win against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and a 69 not out against Bangladesh in the semi-final.

Also, Sameer Minhas’s 172 against India was the highest by a Pakistani player in the history of youth ODIs and continental competition.

Interestingly, this is the highest individual score in youth ODIs against India, surpassing the previous best of 159, scored by his compatriot Shahzaib Khan in the previous edition of the U19 Asia Cup.
