LAHORE: Left-arm opener Saim Ayub has been named among the Pakistani cricketers in the selection list for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) player draft to be held in Colombo on June 1.

According to details, a total of 110 Pakistani players including Ayub, Imam-ul-Haq, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Abdullah Shafiq, Usama Mir, Mohammad Wasim Jr and Mohammad Harris were selected for the draft.

The development comes two days after the LPL confirmed that a total of 650 overseas cricketers from all full-member International Cricket Council (ICC) members and associate countries have submitted their names for its sixth edition scheduled to be held from July 17 to August 8.

Among the full members, Pakistan has the largest share of registered players, while the United States (US) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have the largest number of partner countries.

“The largest number of entries from full member countries came from Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, New Zealand, Australia and England,” the franchise league said in a statement.

Meanwhile, earlier today, another Pakistan top-order batsman, Sahibzada Farhan, was pre-signed by the Dambulla franchise ahead of the players’ draft on the back of his impressive performance in Sri Lanka’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with India.

During the mega event, Farhan amassed 383 runs in seven matches with the help of two centuries and a fifties and finished as the highest run-scorer.

Notably, the 2026 edition of the LPL will feature five franchises representing Jaffna, Colombo, Kandy, Galle and Dambulla.

However, the official team names and ownership details are yet to be confirmed, with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) expected to release the full branding and ownership identities closer to the tournament.
