NEW CHANDIGARH: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to take disciplinary action against Rajasthan Royals captain Ryan Barrack, who won the match against Punjab Kings in the 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Pictures of Barak, 24, using an e-cigarette during Tuesday’s match in Chandigarh were broadcast live on television and quickly spread on social media.
E-cigarettes are banned in India under a 2019 law that bans the manufacture, import, sale and storage, regardless of nicotine content.
Violations are punishable by a fine of up to 500,000 rupees ($6,000) and imprisonment. Vaping on personal property and in public is also prohibited.
Barak scored 29 as Rajasthan table-toppers Punjab successfully chased down 222 for their first defeat of the season.
The skipper has struggled with the bat this season, scoring just 117 runs at an average of 14.62 in nine matches.
BCCI may fine Barrack for violating IPL rules and setting a bad example.
Rajasthan, who won the inaugural IPL in 2008 under the late Australian great Shane Warne, recently fined their team manager Ravinder Singh Pinder Rs 100,000 for using a mobile phone in the dugout during a match.
