KARACHI: Pakistan Super League (PSL)’s new franchise Hyderabad owner Fawad Sarwar has shared details on the timeline for unveiling the team’s name and logo ahead of the 11th edition of the tournament scheduled from March 26 to May 3.

In a recent interview with a local news site, Sarwar confirmed that both the team’s name and logo have already been finalised. He said the official release is planned for the PSL player auction on February 11.

“We are planning a big event for the launch,” he informed.

When asked about the process of selecting the team captain, Sarwar emphasized that leadership is not automatically conferred on the basis of seniority or reputation.

“No player, whether Pakistani or foreign, has an inherent right to the captaincy just because he is a big name or a senior player. We have our own selection process and after due consultation, we will decide. The captain can be anyone – a good leader. Whoever gets the role depends on that profile,” he said.

Sarwar praised former Pakistan captain Babar Azam as his favorite cricketer. He said he would like to get a place in the Assam team if given a chance.

“Of course, every team wants him. Right now, we are not thinking about any other players. We will take a decision once we know which players their current owners have retained,” he added.

In another development, former Australian cricketer Jason Gillespie will take over as Hyderabad’s head coach, while Grant Bradburn and Craig White have been appointed as assistant coaches, the franchise announced on Wednesday.

The 11th edition of the PSL will expand to eight teams, with Hyderabad and Sialkot joining as new franchises. 1.75 billion ($6.25 million) and Hyderabad confirmed its ownership by winning the auction.
