LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to organize a four-team domestic one-day tournament in August as part of a plan to help the national players prepare for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next year, sources told Geo Super on Monday.
According to insiders, the cricket board is currently in the process of selecting players for the four teams that will participate in the one-day tournament and has informed them of its decision to host the event in August.
The upcoming one-day event will miss out on the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026, scheduled to be held from August 7 to September 20, as the PCB’s revised central contract framework mandates white-ball specialist players to play in domestic limited-overs matches.
Notably, several national players, including Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Subian Mukeem, Saad Masood, Salman Irshad and Usman Khan, had to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the PCB to participate in the CPL 2026.
Meanwhile, emerging left-arm opener Mas Sadaq, who has already been given an NOC to participate in CPL 2026, has become uncertain about his presence in the league, sources said.
In the Global Super League (GSL) 2026, which will feature 13 Pakistani cricketers, Sadaqat is not among the 14 national players who have been given NOC to participate in various foreign franchise leagues.
The five-team tournament, featuring Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 champions Lahore Qalandars, is scheduled to be held at the Providence Stadium in Guyana from July 23 to August 1 and is therefore unlikely to be affected by the unavailability of national players due to the upcoming domestic one-day tournament.
