
Mirpur: Pakistan slipped into unnecessary history as they lost to Bangladesh by 104 runs in the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Fast bowler Nahit Rana led the hosts to an impressive win with a sensational spell on the final day to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Rana took 5-40 in 9.5 overs and sealed the victory with Shaheen Shah Afridi’s 13-ball duck out as Pakistan were bowled out for 163 chasing 268.
The result marked Pakistan’s third Test defeat in a row against Bangladesh, following back-to-back defeats in Rawalpindi in 2024 and this latest setback in Mirpur. The streak of failures extends from August 2024 to May 2026.
With this series, Pakistan have equaled Zimbabwe’s unwanted record of losing three Tests in a row against Bangladesh during the 2014 tour, including a 3-0 series whitewash.
Pakistan captain Shaun Masood moved into the second-most defeats in the country’s history as a Test captain with 11 defeats and four wins in 15 matches. Only Misbah-ul-Haq has more defeats as a captain with 19 defeats in 56 Tests.
In the chase, Abdullah Fazal scored a top score of 66 off 113 balls with 11 fours. Salman Ali Agha scored 26 runs off 39 balls while Saud Shakeel, Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan scored 15 runs each.
Earlier, Bangladesh continued the final day on 152-3 and added another 88 runs to declare on 240-9, setting Pakistan a target of 268.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shando led the way with 87 off 150 balls including 7 fours, while Mominul Haq added 56 off 120 balls. Mehdi Hasan Miraz and Mushfiqur Rahim scored 24 and 22 runs respectively.
Asked to bat first, Bangladesh were bowled out for 413 in 117.1 overs. Mominul Haq scored 91 runs, Sandhu scored 101 runs and Mushfiqur Rahim scored 71 runs.
Pakistan’s bowling effort led by Mohammad Abbas took 5-92 in 34 overs. Shaheen Shah Afridi took 3 wickets and Hasan Ali and Noman Ali took one wicket each.
In reply, Pakistan scored 386 runs in 100.3 overs, trailing by 27 runs in the first innings. Centuries from Azan Awais (103) and key contributions from Abdullah Fazal (60), Salman Ali Agha (58) and Mohammad Rizwan (59) kept Pakistan competitive.
Mehidi Hasan Miraz took 5-102 for Bangladesh, while Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam took two wickets each and Nahid Rana added a wicket.
