LAHORE: National women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana on Tuesday requested Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi to launch a women’s cricket league.
Addressing reporters here, Fatima mentioned that the women’s cricket league was long awaited and emphasized that the initiative would attract foreign cricketers while national players would also get more opportunities to play abroad.
He further advocated that this is vital in promoting the progress of Pakistan Women’s Cricket.
“We have been waiting for Pakistan Women’s Cricket League for a long time. I request PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to start our league,” Fatima told reporters here.
“This will attract foreign players to Pakistan and at the same time our players will also get opportunities abroad. This will greatly benefit women’s cricket. Even Asian countries now have a women’s league and as our cricket progresses, such a league is necessary,” he added.
The 24-year-old, who is set to lead Pakistan in the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, expressed satisfaction with the national team’s preparations, saying that they have had the right opportunity to prepare fully for the first time ahead of the mega event, thus expressing hope for a better performance in the 12-team tournament.
“For the first time, we have got a proper opportunity to prepare fully before the World Cup. Before the tournament, Zimbabwe will tour Pakistan and after that we will go to Ireland. We have also been given domestic matches and training camps have been held regularly,” the Pakistan captain said.
“We will go into the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup with a strong composition and aim to deliver the best performance,” he added.
Fatima further shared her determination to give Pakistan a consistent performance and victory.
“I try to maintain consistency in my activities. As an all-rounder, I want to win as many matches as possible for Pakistan. We are also working to bring all-rounders into the team as it benefits the team a lot.”
