Port of Spain: Pakistan men’s cricket team and West Indies select eleven players observed a minute’s silence to pay tribute to the late Sir Garfield Sobers before the start of the four-day practice match at the Queen’s Park Cricket Club on Saturday.
In a video posted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Facebook, players from both sides could be seen lining up to observe a minute’s silence to pay tribute to legendary all-rounder Sobers, who breathed his last on Friday.
“Pakistan and West Indies players pay tribute to late Sir Garfield Sobers before start of warm-up match,” PCB captioned the video.
“Both the teams observed a minute’s silence and wore black armbands as a mark of respect to the legendary cricketer.”
Sobers represented the West Indies in 93 Tests between 1954 and 1974, scoring 8,032 runs at 57.78 and taking 235 wickets at 34.03 each, and was named one of Whiston’s five best batsmen of the 20th century as Australia’s all-rounder. The greatest cricketer of all time”.
Sobers also became the first cricketer to hit six sixes in an over, a feat he achieved while playing county cricket for Nottinghamshire, with Glamorgan’s Malcolm Nash being the unlucky bowler.
