
Mirpur: Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Santo broke former captain and wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim’s Test record on the opening day of the first Test against Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday.
Shando scored 101 runs off 130 balls, including 12 fours and 2 sixes, scoring Bangladesh’s highest century as captain.
The top-order batsman scored his ninth Test century, five of which have come as Bangladesh captain, surpassing Mushfiqur Rahim’s record of four centuries as a captain, while Mominul Haq is third with three centuries.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh dominated the opening day’s three sessions of the Mirpur Test and scored 301-4 in 85 overs thanks to an unbeaten innings by Shando, Huq and Mushfiqur.
Batting, Bangladesh lost 31-2 to Shaheen Afridi for 8 runs and Shadman Islam for 13 runs to Hasan Ali.
Mominul and Santo rebuilt the innings with 50 runs to take Bangladesh to 101-2 at lunch.
Shando scored 101 off 130 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes before sharing a 170-run partnership with Mominul to reach his sixth Test half-century.
Mominul scored his 26th Test fifty and scored 91 off 200 balls. The pair added 75 more runs to end the stand by dismissing Noman Ali Mominul.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 48 off 104 balls, Liton Das combined with 8 to take Bangladesh past 300.
Pakistan bowlers Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Abbas, Hasan Ali and Noman Ali took one wicket each while the visitors conceded 31 extras, including 16 fours, 7 leg-byes and 8 no-balls.
