KARACHI: Australia’s veteran all-rounder Moises Henriques has shared his observation on Babar Asam’s fan following, saying the star Pakistan batsman has more followers than the Sydney Sixers.

Henriques, Babar’s six-team teammate in the current edition of the Big Bash League (PBL), praised the former Pakistan captain for his humility and modesty despite his achievements in world cricket.

“It was a really cool experience because he’s just like a really down-to-earth, really nice guy to be around the team and on the team,” Henriques said in an interview.

“I know a lot of people say that about people when they come in, but when you look at what he has achieved in world cricket, you know the humility that he brings is there. He’s obviously smart and talks cricket very well,” he added.

Citing the enthusiastic crowd response to his half-century against the Melbourne Renegades earlier this week, Moises Henriques believes Baber has more fans than the Sixers, but expressed his hope to “convert” some of them.

“I think the rally that came around him and followed him, we saw tonight when he turned fifty, the crowd erupted even though it was an away game,” Henriques said.

“They’ve closed off a whole section at the SCG for Babur fans. So I think he has more fans than Sixers, but hopefully we’ll convert some of them.”

Babar was signed directly by Assam Sixers for the upcoming 15th edition of PPL.

To capitalize on the star batsman’s fame, the Sixers launched a special fan zone in October titled “Babaristan”, which also assigned him a special three-digit jersey number, 056, to celebrate the 31-year-old’s debut in the BBL.
