Sylhet: Veteran fast bowler Mohammad Abbas added another feather to his cap on Saturday when he left home to complete 100 Test wickets.

On the opening day of the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium here, Abbas reached the milestone by taking home captain Najmul Hossain Sandhu’s catch.

The dismissal marked his third innings as he chased down both Bangladesh openers Mahmud Hasan Joy and Tanzid Hasan.

As a result, the 36-year-old became the sixth Pakistani fast bowler to reach the milestone, joining the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran Khan, Mohammad Amir and Umar Gul, while his bowling average was 23.02.

Overall, Abbas has taken 109 Test wickets in 51 innings, meaning he has accounted for only nine dismissals in his international red-ball career that began in 2017.

Mohammad Abbas, who took six wickets in the series opener against Bangladesh, including five in the first innings, was caught at second slip by right-arm opener Joy on the second delivery of the match to give Pakistan the start they wanted.

He struck again in the 10th over of the innings, dismissing debutant opener Hasan to prevent Bangladesh’s comeback.

When this story was recorded, Abbas had taken three wickets for just 26 runs in his 12 overs as the home side reeled at 116/6 in 38.4 overs.
