RAWALPINDI: Australian captain Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Pakistan due to an ankle injury, with wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis set to lead the team in his absence.
Marsh, who also missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) season finale against Lucknow Supergiants, will remain in Perth for treatment and further medical evaluation.
Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed that his availability for the upcoming Bangladesh white-ball tour will be decided at a later stage.
The three-match ODI series between Pakistan and Australia is scheduled from May 30 to June 4. The opening match will be played in Rawalpindi and the remaining two matches will be played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
In a further development, Australia are expected to give emerging fast bowler Ollie Peake an international debut as they adjust their squad in Marsh’s absence.
The series marks Pakistan’s return to Australia for a 50-over bilateral tour since their last ODI tour in March–April 2022, after Pakistan won the series 2–1 at home.
Earlier this year, Australia also toured Pakistan for a three-match T20I series in January-February, where the hosts completed a 3-0 clean sweep at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
Australia squad for ODI series updated: Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis (c/wk), Matthew Kuhneman, Marnus Labuschagne, Riley Meredith, Ollie Peake, Matthew Renshaw, Tanveer Sangha, Liam Scott, Matt Short, Billy Stanlake and Adam Zampa.
