
KARACHI: Captain Shaun Masood scored a stunning double century as Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) dominated the opening day of the 2025-26 Presidents Trophy Grade-I against Sahir Associates in the first round match at the National Bank Sports Complex on Sunday.
Batting first, SNGPL got off to a solid start as openers Azaan Awais and Ali Zariab put on a 53-run partnership. Azan fell first after scoring 26 off 68 balls, including 4 fours, and Bilawal was out.
Following Azan’s departure, Ali Zariab and captain Shaun Masood formed a record partnership, piling on the runs and putting Sahir Associates under huge pressure.
Masood led the innings with patience and precision and both the batsmen were exceptional.
Mohammad Hasnain finally broke the 390-run mark by dismissing Zariab, who was eight runs short of a double century, with 192 off 237 balls with 27 fours and 4 sixes.
Shaun Masood remained unbeaten, scoring 212 off 185 balls including 18 fours and 2 sixes.
At the end of the first day, SNGPL reached 460-2 in 82.1 overs with Umair Bin Yousuf at the crease with 5 off 15 balls and a boundary.
Akib Khan took six wickets as the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) restricted Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) to a modest total in the second game of the tournament at the National Bank Stadium.
Batting first, KRL were bowled out for 116 runs in 46.4 overs. Opener Saad Baig top scored with 22 off 30 balls including 3 fours and Junaid Ali with 21 off 64 balls. The rest of the batting line-up struggled to make an impact.
For WAPDA, Aqib Khan was brilliant with 6 wickets for 18 runs in 11.4 overs. Nakeebullah and Mohammad Zeeshan took 2 wickets each.
In reply, WAPDA ended the day at 75-4 in 23.1 overs, still trailing by 41 runs. Sharon Siraj remained unbeaten on 37 off 60 balls including 5 fours, while Naqeebullah is yet to open his account.
Mohammad Hamza made a big impact with two important wickets, opener Imran Dogar took 5 off 14 balls and Ayaz Dasawar 5 off 24 balls.
Arshad Iqbal took both wickets, Muhammad Akhlaq 17 and Nabi Gul 5.
In the third match at the UBL Sports Complex, Ghani Glass’ bowling attack dominated, restricting Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) to a modest total, thanks to Noman Ali and Afaq Afridi’s outstanding performance.
Batting first, OGDCL were bowled out for 196 runs in 60 overs. Tail-ender Mushtaq Ahmed scored 58 off 77 balls including 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Opener Sameer Saqib scored 31 runs off 93 balls with 4 fours, while middle-order batsman Danish Aziz added 22 runs off 37 balls with 2 fours and a six.
In bowling, spinner Noman Ali and pacer Afridi took 4 wickets each, while Mir Hamza and Ubaid Shah took one wicket each.
Ghani Glass ended the first day at 67-2 in 24 overs, still 129 runs behind.
Opener Sharjeel Khan remained unbeaten on 38 off 75 balls including 6 fours while Mohsin Riaz scored 8 off 13 balls.
Khawaja Arham and Ubaid Shah were dismissed for 16 and zero respectively.
State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) bowler Mohammad Ismail took five wickets to help his team restrict Pakistan Television (PTV) to a low total in the fourth match at the State Bank Stadium.
Batting first, PTV were bowled out for 99 in 30.4 overs. Top-order batsman Mohammad Taha scored 47 off 65 balls, including 6 fours and a six, while the rest of the batting line-up struggled.
Ismail led SBB’s bowling with figures of 5/27 in six overs. Qashif Ali took four wickets and Qasim Akram took one wicket.
In reply, SBB took a 7-run lead at the end of the first day at 106-4 in 41 overs. Opener Hasan Raza was unbeaten on 39 off 132 balls with 3 fours, with Mohammad Abbas 1 not out.
Earlier, Imran Bhatt was dismissed by Amad Bhatt for 4 runs. Mohammad Huraira added 25 runs, fell to Israr Hussain and Abdullah Fazal was out lbw to Musa Khan for 10 runs.
Wicket keeper-batsman Gazi Kori dismissed Amad Butt for 22 runs.
