Amsterdam: The Royal Dutch Cricket Association (KNCB) on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of former South African all-rounder Johan Botha as a consultant for the Netherlands men’s team.
The 41-year-old, who represented South Africa in five Tests, 78 ODIs and 40 T20Is between 2005 and 2012, is scheduled to play in the crucial ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 home tri-series against Namibia and Nepal at the Kampong Cricket Club from July 1 at the Kampong 1 Club.
Having led the Proteas in two limited over formats during his glittering international career, Botha has held several coaching positions in franchise leagues around the world such as Pakistan Super League (PSL), Big Bash League (PBL), Major League Cricket (MLC) and Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Reflecting on his appointment as a consultant, Botha expressed his deep joy at the opportunity to work with the Netherlands players, coaches and staff, citing the progress of the Dutch team over the years.
“I am looking forward to joining the Netherlands team at this crucial time in the World Cup League 2 against Namibia and Nepal,” Botha said.
“It will be great to watch their progress over the last few years and work with the players, coaches and staff,” he added.
KNCB High Performance Board member Sybrand Engelbrecht welcomed Botha’s appointment as adviser to the Dutch men’s team, citing the former South African all-rounder’s coaching experience.
“We are very pleased to have Johan on board,” Engelbrecht said.
“He is a very experienced coach, having worked in the PSL, CPL, MLC, Big Bash and Queensland Cricket.”
