Mumbai Indians (MI) have finally broken their long streak of losing opening games this season, but their campaign has been derailed ever since. The team has now suffered four consecutive defeats in IPL 2026, struggling to build any momentum as their campaign unfolds.

Tensions surfaced during MI’s recent clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS), with captain Hardik Pandya animatedly adjusting the field during an over, signaling imminent tactical changes.

Jasprit Bumrah was initially unconvinced by the adjustment but eventually complied. The moment caught the attention of the broadcast cameras, which later showed Rohit Sharma clutching his head in the dugout in frustration.

Despite having a strong team on paper, Mumbai Indians were cut across the board. Widely regarded as one of the best fast bowlers in the world, Bumrah’s form has been a major talking point.

Surprisingly, he went wicketless in five matches, adding to the growing concern among fans and analysts.

The bowling unit as a whole struggled to deliver consistent breakthroughs. Deepak Chahar endured a tough outing, conceding 45 runs in 2.3 overs and not taking any wickets at an economy rate of 18.

Pandya proved costly with the ball, leaking 39 runs in three overs, while Shardul Thakur conceded 42 runs and managed to pick up just one wicket.

Mumbai’s struggles are clearly reflected in the IPL 2026 points table. With just one win from five matches, they are ninth with two points and a net run rate of -1.076, leaving their playoff hopes under early pressure.

MI next face Gujarat Titans on Monday, April 20, which will be crucial in deciding whether they can halt their slump or continue their disappointing run of form.
