Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday confirmed that bowling all-rounder Harsh Dubey has replaced Washington Sundar in the third and final ODI against England at Lord’s on Sunday.
Sundar, who has represented India in 18 Tests, 34 ODIs and 62 T20Is, injured his right hamstring while scoring his first run during the second match of the series against England in Cardiff on Thursday.
He required treatment on his thigh during the innings and did not return to the field for England’s chase after the dismissal.
India’s batting coach Chidanshu Kodak gave an initial update on Sundar’s hamstring injury at the end of the second ODI, sharing that it “looked bad”.
“Washington’s injury happened when he ran his first run to mid-off. His hamstring, it looks like a bad injury, he got out on the next ball,” Kotak said.
Meanwhile, according to the latest development, the BCCI confirmed that the 26-year-old will sit out the series against England due to a hamstring injury earlier today, for which he will undergo a scan and seek expert opinion.
“Washington injured his right hamstring during the second ODI at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff and has been ruled out of the rest of the series. He will undergo a scan and seek specialist advice for further management of his injury,” BCCI said in a statement.
Subsequently, the Indian men’s selection committee has included 23-year-old bowling all-rounder Dubey in the series-deciding squad.
The men’s selection committee has named Harsh Dubey as Washington Sundar’s replacement for the third and final ODI against England at Lord’s, the BCCI said.
Dube, who made his ODI debut for India during the domestic series against Afghanistan last month, has made two appearances in the longer format and picked up four wickets but did not bat.
