Perth: Hobart Hurricanes scored a narrow four-wicket win against Perth Scorchers in the 12th match of the Big Bash League (PBL) 2025-26 at the Perth Stadium on Friday thanks to Tim David’s impressive performance after a combined effort.

Batting first, the home side’s batting unit could only manage 150/8 in their 20 overs, despite Finn Allen’s impressive innings lifting the order.

The opener scored 43 runs off 23 balls with 3 sixes and several fours.

Despite his blistering performance which culminated with 73 in the ninth over, the Scorchers’ middle order collapsed to reduce the total to 86/5 in 11.3 overs.

Following the collapse, Larry Evans (27) and Nick Hobson anchored the innings with a 45-run stand during their sixth-wicket partnership, which was broken by the former’s dismissal of Rishad Hossain in the 16th over.

Hobson, on the other hand, bounced back after scoring 29 off 23 balls, holding a corner until he was sacrificed to Nathan Ellis in the final over.

Rishad took three wickets for the Hurricanes, Riley Meredith took two wickets and Mitchell Owen, Rehan Ahmed and Ellis took one each.

Chasing 151, the Hurricanes hit the winning runs for 6 wickets.

However, the Hurricanes had a mixed start as they were reduced to 39/3 in 7.4 overs before David and Nikhil Chaudhary started the recovery.

The duo put on 63 off just 37 balls for the fourth wicket as both set batsmen retreated in successive overs, with Chaudhary dismissed by Cooper Connolly while David was injured.

David top-scored with 42 off 28 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes, while Chaudhry scored 34 off 30 balls.

Megalister Wright then took control of the Hurricanes chase and eventually scored an unbeaten 22 off 13 balls to lead to a hard-earned victory in the final over.

He got significant support at the back from lower-order batsman Chris Jordan, who scored 15 off 11 balls.

Connolly took three wickets for 23 from his three overs for the Scorchers, with Joel Parris dismissed twice.

With the win by four wickets, the Hobart Hurricanes strengthened their grip on the second spot in the PPL 2025-26 standings as they now have six points from four matches and are ahead of the Melbourne Stars due to their lower net run rate.
