
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board is expected to announce the squad and training camp for the T20 series against Australia in the next couple of days. Jio News On Wednesday.
The three-match T20 International series will begin on January 29, with all the matches scheduled to be played as evening matches in Lahore. The remaining matches will be played on January 31 and February 1.
Australia’s T20I squad is expected to arrive in Lahore on Wednesday, January 28.
Sources suggest that the Pakistan team management is keen to rely on spin options for this series, with Usman Tariq likely to be retained in the squad.
The possible line-up is expected to include pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, while Mohammad Wasim Jr. is unlikely to be included. Pater Khawaja Nafe is set to retain his place.
The series will be an important preparation for both sides ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Pakistan will compete with India, USA, Netherlands and Namibia in Group A and Australia will compete with Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Oman in Group B.
The tour will be Australia’s third visit to Pakistan after March-April 2022, when they toured the country for a historic Test series, followed by an ODI series and a T20I.
Australia also played three matches in Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
On 5 April 2022, the Kangaroos registered a three-wicket win in the only T20I played at Gaddafi Stadium.
Historically, Pakistan and Australia have faced each other 28 times in T20 Internationals. Australia have won 14 matches while Pakistan have 12 wins, one draw and one draw.
