Sylhet: Dubai Capitals assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zaki collapsed on Saturday after suffering a heart attack ahead of their Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025-26 match against Rajshahi Warriors at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The tragedy occurred when Jackie suddenly collapsed on the field during the Capitals’ pre-game show. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The match proceeded as scheduled with a minute’s silence observed by the players, coaches and match officials to honor Zaki for his services to Bangladesh cricket.
Zaki’s funeral was held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium following the Capitals’ five-wicket victory over the Warriors.
After being reported for questionable bowling action in 2016, most notably with Taskin Ahmed, Zacky has been a respected figure in Bangladesh cricket, particularly for his work with the country’s fast bowlers.
Zaki was employed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for about 17 years, working as a specialist fast bowler in the Sports Development Department.
“Following his sporting career, Mahbub Ali Zaghi devoted himself to coaching and player development. He joined BCB in 2008 as a high performance coach and through his work has made significant contributions to the development of fast bowling in the country,” BCB said in a statement.
During his time at BCB, Jackie also had the task of liaising with various foreign bowling coaches who worked for the Bangladesh men’s cricket team.
