DUBAI: Top-order batsmen Shayan Jahangir and Jordan Cox scored blistering fifties as Dubai Capitals beat rock-bottom Sharjah Warriors by six wickets in the 27th match of ILT20 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
The win made the Capitals fifth in nine matches and cemented their place in the playoffs, four clear of the fourth-placed Gulf Giants, 10 points clear of third place.
Batting first, the Warriors could muster 134/8 in their allotted 20 overs despite an anchor performance from opener Johnson Charles.
Charles watched over the Warriors’ innings till the 16th over and scored a cautious 43 off 46 balls with two sixes and several fours.
Apart from him, his opening partner Monak Patel (24) and lower-order batsmen Adil Rashid and Harmeet Singh, 14 each, could pile up double figures against Capitals’ disciplined bowling attack.
For the Capitals, Waqar Salamkhail and Haider Ali took two wickets each, while David Willey, Mustafizur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi took one each.
Chasing a modest target of 135, the home team easily rattled off the winning runs with four wickets and five balls to spare, aided by an anchoring second-wicket partnership between Jahangir and Cox.
The duo put on 76 runs in 10 overs and a scratchy 7 off 14 balls rescued the Capitals from 17/1 in four overs following the dismissal of Sethigulla Atal.
This crucial partnership culminated in Jahangir’s dismissal in the 15th over when the Capitals needed 42 more runs. The opener departed after scoring 51 off 39 balls with 6 fours and a six.
Cox, on the other hand, stood firm and led the Dubai Capitals over the top off the first delivery of the last over as he scored an unbeaten 61 off 50 balls with 6 fours and a six.
