Derbyshire Falcons have announced the signing of Pakistan left-arm wrist spinner Subian Muqeem for the first half of the 2026 Vitality Blast campaign.
Boasting impressive international T20 figures of 5-3 for Pakistan, Mukeem has emerged as one of the most sought-after spinners in the franchise circuit.
He previously worked with Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League under coach Mickey Arthur.
The 26-year-old has maintained an economical run rate of just 6.35 runs per over in 38 T20Is, half of which have been played at international level.
He is set to feature in Derbyshire’s first six Vitality Blast fixtures this summer, including the East Midlands derby against Notts Outlaws at the Central Co-op County Ground on Friday, May 29.
Reflecting on the signing, cricket chairman Mickey Arthur expressed his excitement about bringing Mokeem back into his fold.
Extolling the spinner’s skill and attitude under pressure, he praised both his skill and character.
“Sufian is a rising star in T20 cricket and I have had the pleasure of working with him in the past. I have witnessed first-hand his ability and resilience under pressure,” said Arthur.
“When it comes to picking players, quality is just as important as talent, and Sufiyan is a gem. He is hungry for success and will be a fantastic addition to our squad in the first half of the Vitality Blast,” he added.
Mukeem, meanwhile, expressed his excitement at joining the Falcons and reuniting with Arthur. He emphasized his eagerness to experience England conditions and contribute to the team.
“I’m delighted to be working with Mickey again at the Falcons. He’s a fantastic coach and I can’t wait to enjoy playing cricket in England,” said Mukeem.
The upcoming fixtures will be played from May 22 to July 18, with Essex taking on Sussex in the opening match.
Taking eight wickets at an economy rate of 4.91, Mukeem has represented Pakistan in four ODIs. In T20Is, he has played 19 matches and has taken 27 wickets at an economy rate of 6.28.
