Canada Monty Desai has been named the new head coach of the men’s national team, as Cricket Canada confirmed the move as part of its long-term development plan.

Desai is a highly respected coach with over 20 years of international experience. One of his notable achievements came during his time with Nepal, where he helped them regain ODI status and qualify for several ICC global tournaments.

“Our top priority is to restore Cricket Canada’s relevance through efficiency, professionalism and a renewed and revitalized purpose,” Cricket Canada President Arvinder Khosa said.

“Monty Desai’s appointment reflects this vision. His experience with associate countries, particularly Nepal and Afghanistan, demonstrates his ability to transform teams through effective leadership, discipline and a clear long-term plan.

“This year marks a pivotal moment as we build on our recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup appearance and we are confident that under his leadership, the team will make significant progress.”

Desai, who has coached the Afghanistan national team and worked in franchise and domestic cricket in India, said he was honored to take on the role.

“I am honored to take on this responsibility and thank Cricket Canada for their trust,” said Desai.

“My previous experience in Canada has given me a clear understanding of the organization’s potential and passion for the game. Associate cricket has been a major driver in the growth of the world game today, and teams like Nepal and Afghanistan have proven that faith, discipline and fearlessness can be unlocked.

“Canada has a similar opportunity, and my focus will be on building a culture that translates this potential into sustainable performances on the international stage.”
