ABU DHABI: Australia’s batting all-rounder Cameron Green on Tuesday broke bidding records in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction to become the most expensive overseas player in the history of the cash-rich league.

Green, who represented Australia in 21 T20Is, emerged as one of the most sought-after overseas players in the auction, with three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) eventually snapping up his services for Rs 25.2 crore.

As a result, the 26-year-old surpassed his compatriots Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, who fetched INR 24.75 crores and INR 20.50 crores from KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) respectively, to become the most expensive overseas IPL player in the 2024 edition.

Overall, Green is the third costliest player in IPL history, after Rishabh Pant (INR 27 crores) and Shreyas Iyer (INR 26.75 crores), brought in by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in last year’s mega auction in Jeddah.

The all-rounder was an equally huge hit in the IPL 2023 auction where he emerged as the second most expensive pick, joining Mumbai Indians for INR 17.50 crores, only behind Tom Curran who was acquired by PPKS for INR 18.50 crores.

Notably, Cameron Green has featured in two IPL seasons so far, switching to Mumbai Indians in 2023 and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) the following year.

He has scored 707 runs in 28 innings at an average of 41.58 and a strike rate of 153.69. He has taken 16 wickets in 29 innings at a poor average of 41.50.
