Dhaka: Bangladesh Cricket Board (PCB) Security Committee Chairman Syed Ibrahim Ahmed on Tuesday said that they are ready to step up security measures for the domestic series against India scheduled for August-September this year.

After months of tussle between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the PCB, it stems from the axing of veteran Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).

In a letter to the BCCI, the PCB highlighted the Indian men’s cricket team’s tour to Bangladesh, which was postponed last year due to the diplomatic situation between the two neighbours.

However, recent media reports suggest that the long-delayed series may finally take place in the aforementioned window as the PCB has reportedly invited bids for television and digital media rights for 2026 and 2027.

While no cricket board has officially commented on the progress of the tour until the start of this month, Ibrahim, BCB’s security committee chairman, said he was ready to provide full security to the Indian cricket team if they cross the border for the August-September bilateral white-ball series.

Ibrahim also clarified that there is no such positive news from the BCCI yet, but he said preparations for India’s tour are underway and will “come very soon”.

“Security is always a concern for every touring team, especially major cricketing nations. We are yet to formally communicate with them (BCCI). We hope there will be no complaints if the tour goes ahead as planned,” Ibrahim told reporters in Dhaka on Tuesday.

“We always try to organize our events in a controlled environment and ensure the highest standards of security. We will continue to do so.

“It (security measures) will depend on the situation (during the India series) and we will improve security if necessary,” he said.

“There is no such positive news (with BCCI) yet and we are still working out the details of the tour. We are trying to communicate through our proper channels as the tour is coming very soon,” he added.
