KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali has been included in the supporting staff of the Scotland Men’s Cricket Team as a consultant for the ICC Cricket World Cup League (CWCL) 2 tour to Nepal starting on May 12.
Azhar, who has represented Pakistan in 97 Tests and 53 ODIs, will support Scotland head coach Owen Dawkins during the Nepal tour, where they will play their home country and the United States (USA).
Reflecting on his appointment as a consultant, Hazard expressed his interest in joining the “talented” Scotland men’s team, citing his connection to the country as he spent six seasons as a professional at Huntly Cricket Club in Aberdeenshire in the early days of his career.
“I am really looking forward to joining the Scotland team, especially as I have a connection with Scotland cricket that goes back many years from my early playing days,” Azhar was quoted as saying.
“I’m excited to start working with what is clearly a talented team and look forward to helping them progress on this tour.”
The upcoming match is crucial for Scotland, who are second behind USA in the CWCL2 rankings, as they aim to strengthen their push to qualify for next year’s ICC Men’s World Cup World Cup qualifiers.
Scotland squad for Nepal tour: Richie Berrington (c), Matthew Cross, Bradley Currie, Jasper Davidson, Oliver Davidson, Michael English, Owen Gould, Jack Jarvis, Ollie Jones, Michael Leask, Finlay McGreath, Brandon McMullan, George Munsey, Safyan Sharif and Mark Watt.
