Adelaide: Australia successfully defended their 435-run target against England in the third Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday by 82 runs.

The win gave Australia an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series, the last time England won in 2010-11.

England’s three-match Ashes slump is their fourth in a row in Australia, having lost 16 of their last 18 Tests in the country.

At the start of the decisive final day, England chased down 435 from 207/6 thanks to all-rounder Will Jacks and wicketkeeper-batsman Jamie Smith.

The duo extended their overnight seventh-wicket partnership to 91 runs until Mitchell Starc gave the home team a major breakthrough by dismissing Smith for 60 off 83 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes.

Jacks, on the other hand, stood his ground and forged another crucial partnership for England as he added 52 runs for the eighth wicket along with Brayden Garse, with Starc screening his bold tongue at the start of the second session.

Jacks was a notable run scorer for England with 47 off 137 balls with 3 fours.

Following his dismissal, Starc and Scott Boland ran through England’s batting tail, dismissing Jofra Archer and Josh Dungu respectively, ending the tour’s batting journey in 102.5 overs.

On the other hand, Kars remained unbeaten on 39 off 64 balls with 4 fours and a six.

For Australia, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, Starc took 3 wickets each and Boland took one wicket.

The fourth Ashes Test between Australia and England will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne from December 26 to 30.
