LONDON: Zimbabwean legend and established coach Andy Flower on Friday ruled himself out of the England Men’s Test head coach position.

Flower, tipped as the front-runner to replace New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum, is currently linked with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and London Spirit at the Hundred, and the 58-year-old insists he is doing well with both teams.

“I’m very happy with the work I’m doing at the moment,” Malar said at Spirit’s media day. “I (retired), yes.”

Flower, who previously coached England between 2009 and 2014 and helped the Three Lions win the Ashes series and tour of India during his tenure, confirmed several conversations with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), including its managing director Rob Key.

“Yes, obviously a topic that is currently being talked about. Yes, I have spoken to the ECB. We all know about the England head coach vacancy and I have spoken to Rob (Key) and the ECB on that topic,” confirmed Malar.

“The bottom line for me is that I’m very happy with what I’m doing at the moment. I’m working for two good companies. I have good teams and good people around me and I’m very comfortable with what I’m doing at the moment,” he added.

Recalling his previous experience working in England, Andy Flower shared that he had a “fantastic time” serving as their head coach and insisted that it was a privilege to be their Test coach, but reiterated his control over his current allegiance with RCB and the Spirit.

“I have worked with England before and had a wonderful time many years ago when I had the privilege of representing England as the England head coach and one of their captains, and I remember those years very fondly and it would be a privilege for me or anyone else to be a Test coach,” continued Malar.

“But for me at this point, I’m very comfortable with what I’m doing. I’m going to stick with doing it.”
