
SIHLET: Asmatullah Omarzai backed up his unbeaten half-century with three wickets and Sylhet Titans cruised to a six-run win over Dhaka Capitals in the seventh match of the 2025-26 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Batting first, Omar Zai’s late blitz saw the home side post a mammoth total of 173/5 in the allotted 20 overs.
The all-rounder walked out to bat at No.6 with the scoreboard reading 92/4 in 13.5 overs after opener Saim Ayub (29) and wicketkeeper-batsman Pervez Hossain Eman (44) shared a 64-run partnership for the third wicket.
The Afghanistan international turned the game on its head with a belligerent attack and reached his fifty off the final delivery of the innings. He top scored for the hosts with five fours and three sixes in his 24-ball stay.
For the Capitals, Salman Mirza picked up two wickets but came at a price as he conceded 46 runs in his four overs, while Taskin Ahmed, Mohammad Saifuddin and Saif Hasan managed to pick up a wicket each.
Chasing a tough target of 174, the Capitals’ batting unit managed to amass 167/8 in 20 overs despite middle-order batsman Shamim Hossain’s brave half-century.
Hossain struggled for the Capitals and was their top scorer with an unbeaten 81 off 43 balls that included a dozen fours including 3 sixes.
Apart from him, Sabbir Rahman (23) and Usman Khan (21) could put up double figures against the Titans bowling attack, led by Omarzai who took 3 scalps for 40 runs in his four overs.
For his all-round exploits, Omarzai was awarded the Man of the Match award.
Mohammad Amir and Nasum Ahmed bagged two wickets each and Mehidi Hasan Miraz bagged one for Omarzai’s efforts.
