KARACHI: Former Pakistan fast bowler Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan on Wednesday became the second former international cricketer to publicly deny any association with the newly launched Asian Legends League.
Naveed-ul-Hasan, who represented Pakistan in nine Tests and 74 one-day internationals, took to his Instagram account to distance himself from the match after his name was included in the Pakistan Panthers squad without his consent.
He called on the organizers to immediately remove all references linking him to the league.
“I am not associated with this league in any capacity,” he wrote. “I request the organizers to refrain from making such announcements and request all stakeholders to immediately remove any mention of my name or anything associated with this project.”
The post was accompanied by a graphic showing the Panthers team including a list of famous former Pakistani cricketers including Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Naseer, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Mohammad Irfan, Yasir Shah and Sohail Tanvir.
Naveed-ul-Hasan’s clarification comes shortly after former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik issued a similar denial, denying any involvement in the same league and asking organizers to remove his name from promotional materials and team lists.
“I am in no way associated with this league,” Malik wrote.
“I request the organizers to refrain from making such announcements and request all stakeholders to immediately remove any mention of my name or anything associated with the project,” he added.
Both the cricketers expressed concern over what they described as false reports regarding their participation.
They urged the organizers to rectify the situation immediately and ensure that the false references are withdrawn from all official communications and promotional materials.
